The Regulation sets out the quality criteria for waters intended for fish breeding as well as for those intended for shellfish breeding. The text of the Regulation is divided into twenty-one articles, Additional, Transitional and Final provisions and two Annexes. The first four articles establish general requirements. Moreover, the Regulation concerns the following matters: identification of cyprinid, salmonid and shellfish; setting up of standards; elaboration and execution of programmes aimed at monitoring improvements in water quality and reducing or eliminating pollution; monitoring and sampling methods. All definitions are given in the additional provision. Schedule I contains quality standards for surface waters intended for fish breeding. Schedule II specifies quality standards for coastal sea waters, insofar as they affect shellfish life.
