The Act creates the legal framework for the protection of public health in Malawi and for this purpose provides for powers of the administration to regulate and control and animal and food production and handling, food and water supply, sewerage, etc. Section 11 provides for the notification of infectious diseases, whereas Part IV concerns prevention and suppression of such diseases. Section 34 concerns notification of epidemic or endemic animal diseases. Part X provides for the conservation of water, drainage, and sewerage. Part XIII regulates the supply of food and water to the public. Regulation making powers of the Minister in this respect are set out in section 109.
