Sewer Discharge Control Regulations, 2002 (L.N. No. 139 of 2002).

These Regulations provide rules for the discharge of trade effluent from trade premises into the public sewerage system. “Trade effluent” means any liquid other than stormwater run-off and domestic sewage, which is discharged from any land or building used for commercial purposes or any premises used for agriculture, husbandry or horticulture (reg. 2). Discharge requires a Public Sewer Discharge Permit to be issued by the Chief Executive of the Malta Resources Authority (reg. 4). Regulation 5 places restrictions on discharge regarding the contents and composition of effluent. Regulations 7, 8 and 9 contain rules regarding the application for a permit. Regulation 10 imposes a requirement on any person who discharges trade effluent into the public sewerage system to provide all information as reasonably may be required to the Chief Executive. Powers of that public officer are also outlined in regulation 10. Schedules A,B, and C contain further standards for discharge of toxic substances, including pesticides. Schedule D contains a form of application for a permit. (19 regulations)
