This Provincial Act regulates the production, transformation, conservation and marketing of agricultural products obtained without using chemical products. The Province encourages organic farming and related experimentation with a view to gradually restricting the use of chemical substances in agriculture and contributing to the protection of environmental resources (art. 1). Organic agriculture is defined by article 2, paragraph 1 as the agricultural activity which aims at producing plant and animal commodities without the use of chemical products and ionizing radiations and by using natural fertilizers instead. Article 3 establishes the Provincial Commission for Organic Agriculture. The Commission, as provided for in article 4, shall formulate technical rules for the production, transformation, conservation and marketing of organic agricultural products. Organic farmers' associations must meet the requirements specified by article 5 to be recognized. The Register of Organic Enterprises is created under the competent Provincial Service (art. 7) and shall consist of two main Sections: 1) Organic Agricultural Enterprises; 2) Organic Transformation Enterprises. The subsidies fixed by article 8 shall be granted by the Province in order to promote organic production. Article 12 establishes some transport, storage and labelling requirements as regards the placing on the market of organic products. Inspections shall be carried out on organic farms in accordance with article 13. In case of violation of the provisions hereby established, the penalties laid down in article 14 shall be applied.
