Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the control of water pollution (No. 20 of 1990).

Article 1 contains definitions. Articles 2 to 6 provide for the making of inventories of quality and quantity of water resources under supervision of the Provincial Governors. Article 7 lists various categories of water according to its (beneficial) use: drinking, fisheries and livestock, cultivation, and industry. The Provincial Governor shall exercise control of water pollution in his province (art. 10). This authority shall determine the capability of waters to absorb pollution (art. 14). Effluent standards shall be determined by the Minister in accordance with article 15. Provincial Governors may define more severe standards in accordance with articles 15 and 25. They shall also issue permits for the discharge of liquid waste (art. 26). Articles 29 to 34 provide for surveillance and monitoring of water pollution. Polluters shall submit reports to the Provincial Governor (art. 32), who may warn polluters to meet standards and revoke permits (art. 33) laboratories at central and local government level shall be appointed (art. 34). Remaining articles concern financing, sanctions, and transition. (43 articles)
