INMS is a developing international process linked to the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI), which is providing science based support to policy makers globally. The INMS process has been recognised as part of the UN Environment Assembly resolution (UNEP/EA.4/Res.14), where INMS worked in cooperation with India and the partner countries of South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP).
The work of INMS has been supported through several projects including:
- INMS pump priming providing catalytic funding from the UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) opportunities fund to establish INMS
- The GEF/UNEP project ‘Towards the establishment of an International Nitrogen Management System ( 'Towards INMS')
- The South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH) supported by UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) through Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF)
- Other projects and international collaborations are in development including in partnership with NEWS India-UK, and the Task Force on Reactive Nitrogen (TFRN) and the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management.
