This Decision approves the scheme on environmental protection of the basin of the Dong Nai river system. The scheme focuses on improving and raising the quality of the river water, on preserving the water supply and protecting the environment to ensure sustainable development around the basin. The main objectives of the scheme shall include: to apply, to all newly established factories in the basin, clean technology in manufacturing and meet high standards for wastewater treatment; to efficiently improve the environmental quality and the quality of water in the Dong Nai river system; to limit and put an end to uncontrolled sand exploitation activities in order to prevent river bank erosion and landslides; to protect headwater forest and protective forest areas and preserve biodiversity throughout the basin. The Committee for Environmental Protection in the Dong Nai river basin shall be established to direct and coordinate concerned branches and localities for the purpose of uniformly implementing the contents of the Dong Nai river scheme.
