Climate Change and Emissions Reductions Act (C.C.S.M. c. C135).

The purpose of this Act is to address climate change, to encourage and assist Manitobans in reducing emissions, to set targets for reducing emissions and to promote sustainable economic development and energy security. Section 3 establishes that the initial emissions reduction target for Manitoba is to reduce Manitoba's emissions by 31 December 2012, to an amount that is at least 6% less than Manitoba's total 1990 emissions. The text – consisting of 27 sections – deals with the following matters: targets and programmes, reporting, government initiatives, initiatives related to Manitoba Hydro and advisory committee.
