This Notification sets forth principles for defining the areas where fish farming is prohibited. Criteria for defining an area as an enclosed bay and gulf are listed as well. The Notification also prohibits fish farming in natural and archaeological sites, as specified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Existing fish farms must report to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry within 1 May 2007 in order to verify the status of their areas as per the criteria established. Fish farms meeting the criteria must stop their activities, whereas those operating in the permitted areas must be subjected to a eutrofication assessment within one year after promulgation of this Notification. Measurements and analysis will be conducted by the authorized public or private laboratories. The same assessment procedure will apply to new fish farms before they commence operations in the permitted areas. Areas with high risk of eutrofication are considered as enclosed bays and gulf areas where fish farming will not be allowed.
