This Regulation implements the Waste Prevention and Management Act, 2009.; The Regulation aims to establish a sound waste management system through the efficient collection, segregation, treatment, storage, transportation, reuse, recycling and safe disposal of solid, liquid and gaseous wastes.; The Regulation classifies wastes into medical waste, municipal waste, industrial waste and e-waste and for each of these categories it provides for their prevention and management and defines their monitoring and implementing agencies responsible for the implementation of this Regulation.; The Regulation further provides for: the assignment of costs in proportion to the waste volume generated from the point source or by degree of hazardousness by levying fees, charges and fines for non-compliance; the control and prohibition of illegal dumping or the release of waste into the environment; the development and implementation of waste management plans and programmes; the import and export of waste; requirements for waste collection; the maintenance of records related to the generation, collection, storage, treatment and disposal of wastes; offences and penalties; etc.
