Presidential Decree No. 261/11 approving the Regulation on the quality of water.

This Presidential Decree approves the Regulation on the quality of water within the territory of Angola. The Regulation, consisting of 4 Chapters and 10 Annexes, establishes the norms and criteria for assessing the quality of water in order to protect the natural environment and the internal waters. It establishes standards and measures to be applied in order to improve the quality of water for its principal uses. It applies for internal waters, including superficial and underground waters, as well as water use for aquaculture, livestock, irrigation and bathing purposes. It also regulates the norms for captation and discharge of residual waters into National water courses and in the soil, in order to preserve the quality of the aquatic environment and the human health. The Presidential Decree is divided as follows: General provisions (Chap. I); Water for human consumption (Chap. II); Water protection from residual water discharge (Chap. III); Final provisions (Chap. IV). Annexes list water quality standards and maximum residue limits in water.
