China-GEF-Liaoning

The project development objective was to improve the performance and sustainability of water supply, wastewater, and solid waste services in the LMC-2 cities. The global environmental objective was to reduce land-based pollution into the Bohai Sea through investments in wastewater and solid waste infrastructure and improved utility regulation, planning and management in the LMC-2 cities and throughout Liaoning Province. The overall aimed to contribute to the economic and ecological revitalization of Liaoning Province and improve Bohai Sea water quality. The project has achieved nitrogen reduction from wastewater treatment plants and landfill remediation in the LMC-2 cities and reduced nearly 4,978 tons of total nitrogen otherwise would have gone into the Bohai Sea.
