Funder/Donor
Global Environment Facility
Overview
The goal of the project was to help the nations involved in the initiative (Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russian Federation, Turkey, Ukraine) draught legislation and set priorities for reducing nitrogen and phosphorus runoff into the Black Sea. It was recognized that countries would need to implement plans that curb pollution and lower nutrient and hazardous material inputs to restore coastal and marine ecosystems. The project included three major generic areas where proposals could be formulated: reduction of pollution; living resources management and sustainable human development.
