Danube/Black Sea Basin Strategic Partnership on Nutrient Reduction, Tranche I

Funder/Donor

World Bank

Overview

The project aimed for Strategic Partnership for Nutrient Reduction in the Black Sea and Danube, which includes other Global Environment Facility (GEF) Implementing Agencies and regional partners, includes the proposed GEF-World Bank Nutrient Reduction Facility. Investments in wetland restoration, wastewater or point source pollution controls, and agricultural methods that address non-point sources of nutrient runoff will all benefit from this GEF-funded and World Bank-managed investment programme. The environmental status indicators of Black Sea ecosystems on the western shelf have gradually improved as a result of these efforts because of the large reduction in nutrient transfer (Phosphorus and Nitrogen) to the Black Sea.
