Industrial Pollution Control Project

Funder/Donor

World Bank

Overview

The project aimed to help Algeria reduce exposure to hazardous pollution from industrial activities and supported the adoption of cleaner production technologies and practices, the management of hazardous waste, and the strengthening of the environmental management institutions and regulations. It helped numerous industries, including the one that makes nitrogen-based fertilisers. Reduced nitrogen losses and emissions, increased energy efficiency, and waste material recycling are just some of the environmental benefits that this project will provide to the fertiliser sector. The initiative supported in the creation and implementation of environmental standards, including a cap on emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from manufacturing facilities. This initiative helps fund efforts to tighten regulations on nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, a major source of air pollution and acid rain.
