Integrated Landscape Management in the Cerrado Biome Project

Funder/Donor

World Bank

Overview

The project objective is to “strengthen the adoption of environmental conservation and restoration practices in selected watersheds in the Cerrado biome”. This objective is aligned with the strategic goal of the Forest Investment Program (FIP), which is to support countries efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) and promote sustainable forest management that leads to emission reductions and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD++). It aims to reduce the use of nitrogenous fertilizers in agriculture, which can cause soil degradation, water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Second, it supports the conservation and restoration of the Cerrado biome, which is rich in biodiversity and plays a key role in the nitrogen cycle through its microbial communities.
