Overview

The objective of the project is to improve the water quality of Lake Qaraoun and the Litani River Basin by reducing the pollution from agricultural, industrial and municipal sources. The project also aims to strengthen the institutional and regulatory framework for water management and pollution control in Lebanon. One of the main sources of pollution in Lake Qaraoun is untreated municipal sewage, which contains high levels of nitrogen and other nutrients that cause eutrophication and algal blooms. the project monitors its progress is by keeping an eye on nitrogen levels in Lake Qaraoun and the Litani River Basin.
