The Act consists of 10 Sections that contain 46 articles. The present Act regulates relations in the sphere of water supply of potable water and establishes state guarantees for the provision of consumers of potable water. The main principles of water supply of potable water are: a) state guarantees for priority provision of natural and legal persons with potable water; b) state control and regulation of the issues regarding water supply of potable water; c) safe water supply of potable water in accordance with national standards and norms; d) priority use of groundwater; e) registration and application of water charges. Systems of water supply can pertain to state (national and communal) property and be owned by legal and natural persons. The following activities in the sphere of water supply of potable water are subject to certification: a) potable water supplied by water supply systems; b) bottled potable water; c)technological processes, equipment, materials and chemicals for purification and disinfection of potable water. Quality of potable water must comply with water quality standards. Damage caused to life and health of physical persons as a result of consumption of potable water not complying with standards shall be liable to compensation in accordance with the national legislation.
