Law No. 1982-XII of 1992 on protection of the environment.

The protection of the environment is a prerequisite of stable economic and social development of a state. The present Law is aimed at the ensuring the legal principles of environmental protection, nature management, protection and enhancement of biological diversity and is directed to the provision of constitutional rights of citizens to the environment favourable to human life and health. The document consists of 17 Sections that contain 105 Articles. Section 1 lays down the general provisions. Section 2 deals with state management in the sphere of the environmental protection. Section 3 determines rights and duties of the citizens and public associations in the sphere of environmental protection. Section 4 deals with nature management. Section 5 deals with rationing, metrological maintenance, standardization in the sphere of environmental protection and ecological certification. Section 6 establishes the requirements in the sphere of environmental protection. Section 7 regards protection of the ozone layer and establishes the regulations regarding the impact on climate. Section 8 concerns assessment of environmental impact and ecological expertise. Section 9 regards natural objects subject to particular or special protection. Section 10 deals with ecologically unfavourable territories. Section 11 regards environmental monitoring. Section 12 regards registration in the sphere of environmental protection, environmental data collection and access to ecological information. Section 13 deals with education, enlightenment and scientific research in the sphere of environmental protection. Section 14 determines economic mechanism of environmental protection and nature management. Section 15 regards control in the sphere of environmental protection. Section 16 establishes liability for the infringement of the legislation on environmental protection. Section 17 regards international cooperation in the sphere of environmental protection.
