Water Protection Act (C.C.S.M. c. W65).

The purpose of this Act is to provide for the protection of Manitoba's water resources and aquatic ecosystems. Part 2 lays down provisions relating to water protection. In particular it deals, inter alia, with water quality standards, water quality management zones, water conservation and serious water shortage. Under Part 3 watershed management plans are covered. Section 24 of this Part establishes the “Manitoba Water Council” which has to monitor the development and implementation of watershed management plans in the province; and to review regulations respecting water quality management zones. Section 29 establishes the “Water Stewardship Fund” whose purpose is to provide grants in support of research, projects and activities that further the purposes of this Act. The text consists of 48 sections divided into 6 Parts.
