Law No. 1696-Is on pesticides and agrochemicals.

The purpose of this Law is to ensure the safe and effective use of pesticides and agrochemicals. It regulates state administration, development, registration, manufacture, labelling, packaging, marketing, storage, handling, use decontamination, disposal, information exchange, advertising, and export-import of pesticides and agrochemicals intended for agricultural use. State registration shall only be granted to pesticides and agrochemicals that have been favourably assessed in the course of a registration test. The period of state registration shall be set by the registration agencies but shall, as a rule, be defined as 5 years. After expiration of the certificate of registration, the registration of the pesticide or agrochemical may be renewed. Applicants for registration of pesticides and agrochemicals are obliged to submit: (a) data on the applicant; (b) name of the pesticide or agrochemical; (c) the pesticide’s or agrochemical’s composition, intended use and effectiveness; effectiveness; (d) the product’s possible risks to human health or the environment; (e) liquidation or neutralization methods; (f) instructions for use; (g) data on the type of labelling and packaging; and (h) methods of analysis by which the pesticide’s and agrochemical’s composition and residue may be reliably determined. The packaging/container shall bear the following information: (a) trade name of the pesticide or agrochemical; (b) purpose; (c) registration certificate number; (d) name and address of the manufacturer; (e) active ingredient and its quantity; (f) product shelf life; (g) instructions for use; (h) the pesticide toxicity class and a danger symbol; (i) antidotes; and (j) restrictions.
