These Regulations provide rules for the discharge of effluent into water and provides for the establishment of water quality standards.; Every person who discharges or causes or permits to discharge effluent shall register with the Environmental Protection Agency and any person who discharges effluent in specified activities shall obtain from the Agency an environmental authorisation. Discharges of specified types of wastes shall be prohibited in any case. The Agency may establish the parameter limits of effluent which may be discharged into any inland or coastal waters or land of Guyana with respect to any or all of the substances specified in the Second Schedule. No new facility shall emit any waste in concentrations greater than those established as parameter limits. The Regulations also place restrictions on new and altered sources and provide for sampling, recording and reporting.
