This Decree does not apply to artificial or natural fish ponds of fisheries. It applies to: surface waters used or marked out for potable water abstraction; waters, determined by a separate legal rule, which can assure or could assure the natural habitat of indigenous fishes and needing protection and quality improvement; and proprietors, users of these waters and any operator or person whose activity execise any affact on water quality. Waters suitable for fish life are classified in three categories: waters for trout (salmonid), for barbel, and for bream (cyprinid). Quality standards both for potable water supplying reasources and for fish life are contained in Annex 4. Potable water basis are divided into categories after the determination of water quality conditions, considering the quality features determined in Annex 1. The environmental protection authority shall control the compliance with pollution standards as frequently as determined in Annex 3. The Decree contains detailed rules of quality control procedures and administrative measures in case of non-compliance with standards.
Decree No. 6 of 2002 of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Water Management on pollution standards of surface waters used for potable water abstraction or destined to be a potable water basis, as well as of surface waters marked out for assuring the essential conditions of fishes, and on the control of these standards.
