Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008.

This Act, consisting of 19 sections divided into three Parts and repealing the two schedules, aims to: help Tasmania respond to the challenges of climate change by providing for the setting of a target for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; promote energy efficiency and conservation; promote research and development in the development and use of technology for reducing or limiting greenhouse gas emissions; identify, promote and support measures to help Tasmania deal with and adapt to the expected consequences of climate change; etc.; The Act provides for the establishment of the Tasmanian Climate Action Council which shall provide the minister with independent advice on climate change issues as they affect Tasmania. It defines the internal organization of the Council and its functions and powers. Amendments in particular deal with new contravention and penalties to be paid for illegal activities.
