National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan – EPANB.

The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (EPANB) is a planning instrument applicable at the national level and aiming at contributing to the protection of Brazilian Wildlife biodiversity. The EPANB was developed based on the principles of sustainable development, integrated conservation and development, equity across generations, and biodiversity. This Strategy and Action Plan aims at strengthening the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity through cross-cutting actions that encompass global and national food and nutrition security programmes and strategies (Table 12). Target 2: By 2020, at the latest, biodiversity, geo-diversity and socio-diversity values will be integrated into national and local development and poverty eradication strategies and inequality reduction, being incorporated into national accounts, as appropriate, and Planning and reporting systems. The Biodiversity Action Plan is divided into the following targets: Target 13: Expand the capacity of conservation and availability of species of current or potential interest, with economic, socio-environmental, cultural, agricultural and potential use for genetic improvement and food security. 1.2 The role of women in biodiversity conservation, preservation, recovery and management: The various women in the countryside, forests and water; indigenous peoples, and traditional communities; rural and urban, has been leading throughout history the conservation of biodiversity and promotion of sovereignty and food security through the use and sustainable management of natural resources. The objectives that define the directives of action of the SBF include: the national strategy for the development of the economy of genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge; Conserve Brazilian species, minimizing threats and the risk of extinction; Conserve ecosystems and promote sustainable management of landscapes; and Conserving biodiversity in protected areas. Special attention is given to the reduction of poverty, including rural poverty, through biodiversity conservation. Target 15 establishes that: by 2020, ecosystem resilience and the contribution of biodiversity to carbon stocks will have been increased through conservation and recovery actions, including by recovering at least 15% of degraded ecosystems, prioritizing biomes, river basins And more devastated ecoregions, contributing to mitigation and adaptation to climate change and to combating desertification.
