Environmental Protection Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. E.19).

The purpose of this Act is to ensure the protection and conservation of the natural environment. The Act contains at the outset a definition clause relating to various terms employed therein such as, for example, “adverse effect”, “air”, “analyst”, “certification of property use”, “contaminant”, “discharge”, “environmental penalty”, “inspection”, “natural environment”, “source of contaminant”. The Act consists of 197 sections divided into 17 Parts as follows: Administration (I); General provisions (II); Motors and motor vehicles (III); Water (IV); Waste management (V); Ozone depleting substances (VI); Abandoned motor vehicles (VII); Litter, packaging, containers, disposable products and products that pose waste management problems (IX); Spills (X); Control orders and stop orders (XI); Financial assurance (XII); Appeals to Tribunal (XIII); Work done by Ministry (XIV); Provincial officers (XV); Environmental Council (XVI); Miscellaneous (XVII).
