Global Foundations For Reducing Nutrient Enrichment and ODFLB Pollution in Support of GNC

Funder/Donor

Global Environment Facility

Overview

The project aimed to help governments and other stakeholders launch initiatives to tackle the over-enrichment with nutrients and the depletion of oxygen in coastal waters caused by pollution from land-based sources. The project will lead to the creation of the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management (GPNM), a coalition of governments, businesses, and non-governmental organisations that will work together to raise awareness about the accumulative effects of nutrient over-enrichment in coastal waters and create a plan of action (including region-specific policy, institutional, and investment options) to solve the issue on a variety of scales. Programs for the management and prevention of nitrogen and phosphorus run-off from agriculture activity are prioritised by project stakeholders who place a premium on identifying and implementing appropriate, cost-effective programmes and measures to address point and non-point sources of nutrient discharges.
