Agricultural Development Programme Support Project SIL (FY08)

The project objective was to improve the effectiveness of investments aimed at food security and sustainable agricultural growth in Malawi. The project also has a global environmental objective to strengthen the natural resource base in agricultural lands through doubling the area under sustainable land management as a basis for securing ecosystem services and sustainable agricultural productivity. The project component involves promoting improved soil and water conservation practices, such as agroforestry, conservation agriculture and integrated soil fertility management, that can enhance nitrogen fixation and reduce nitrogen losses. And, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture by improving nitrogen use efficiency and reducing nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizers.
