Croatia Agricultural Pollution Control Project

Funder/Donor

World Bank

Overview

The objective of the project was to lessen the amount of nutrients leached from farmland into surface and groundwater supplies in the Danube River Basin in Croatia. The overuse of nitrogen fertilisers is a major contributor to water pollution in Croatia's agricultural sector. This project also aimed to First, lessen the amount of nitrogen used in crop production. Second, the project helped put into effect the European Union's Nitrate Directive, which regulates nitrate levels in water, creates buffer zones, and calls for action plans to cut down on agricultural nitrate pollution.
